Concert review of David Pack's concert at Club Caprice in CA on April 18, 1998/Glen Fleetwood Glen Fleetwood is a great Ambrosia Fan from California! A L.A. attorney, He has seen Ambrosia & David Pack many times! Glen is a true fan of David Pack, & AMBROSIA! David Pack was in fine form. Eerily, the opener was a band named "Reflections" with a David Pack sound-alike singer! It was easy to see these kids were heavily influenced by Ambrosia. Could be worse influences, but a bad choice for an opener. As the old joke goes, he should have had "5 guys named Joe" open for him. His backup band were two unnamed musicians on guitar and drums, and Shem on bass. He opened with "Pinball Wizard". He Performed two new songs, which I was too drunk to catch the name of; then "Don't Jump" about a couple of kids who had committed suicide three years ago just down the street from the club. A 16 year old boy and 17 year old girl who had leapt off a cliff. Jim Messina played "You Better Think Twice" from his Poco days, then "Kind Woman" (not his song) from the Buffalo Springfield. Finally he played "Your Momma Don't Dance", the song that made Ritchie Furay quit the Poco reunion (too suggestive for Ritchie). Then, we were treated to "You're the Only Woman" with David on keyboards. Some other new song, then "Maria" from Westside Story. Then an encore of "Biggest Part of Me". Then we had the dubious honor of having Gary Wright, formerly of Spooky Tooth, formerly of Gary Wright, and now of vague recollection, and "Time Warner Presents" CD's, join David for a sluggish version of "My Love is Alive (even if my hair is gone)". There were few other David Pack songs, but far too few of his Ambrosia tunes, and too much "Boogie music" (12 bar blues). Sound was very good, a fun night, all in all, probably not up to the Maestro show in terms of song selection, but May 2 at the Conejo Days" festival the full band plays, so I can get my Ambrosia recharge there. I really enjoyed the show, by the way, my review doesn't reflect that too well, but I will do a detailed review of the May 2 show at Conejo Days.
